From the Digital Trenches: Exclusive Interview with Z-Pentest

Z‑Pentest is a pro-Russian Serbian hacktivist group known for targeting NATO countries and specializing in industrial systems. Considered a major threat due to its capabilities in operational technology (OT), Z‑Pentest has become a recurring actor in recent cyberattacks.
Thanks to a contact with NoName057(16), I had the opportunity to conduct a direct interview with the group’s spokesperson. The following transcript reflects Z‑Pentest’s perspective on cyberwarfare, geopolitics, and their approach to critical infrastructure attacks.
Introduction
Z-Pentest:
First, a small correction: it’s NoName057(16), not just NoName057. Numbers matter. Thanks for reaching out! We’ll answer everything honestly—with just enough humor to keep your readers awake. Make a cup of tea (or something stronger), buckle up, this will be more thrilling than explaining Bluetooth to your grandmother.
1. What’s your view on the current geopolitical situation?
We’re always on Russia’s side—no surprises there. Zelensky’s Oval Office antics? Better at stand-up than at strategy. At least Trump mocks the “fictional state”; he has a sense of humor.
As for Europe, its leaders are clueless. They believe they’re safe—newsflash: they’re not. We’re everywhere. Anyone who opposes Russia is buying a one-way ticket. No returns.
2. If the U.S. stops funding Ukraine, will the attacks stop?
Exactly. Some groups already said it: no support, no attacks. Europe should wise up. While their citizens suffer inflation, migrant tensions, and unrest, they keep funding Zelensky’s circus.
Look up “Nazism,” and you’ll find what you’re really supporting. Or don’t—and keep donating billions “for democracy.”
3. You specialize in OT environments. Have you gained access?
We’re more than a group—we’re a phenomenon. We adapt, evolve, and create our own rules. Borders don’t apply. We’re in places people think are safe. Spoiler: they’re not.
We watch. We wait. And when the time comes, no one even sees it coming.
4. Which infrastructure or country has been the hardest to breach?
None. Everything goes according to plan—because we write the plan. Sometimes, there aren’t even doors to break in.
We don’t single out countries. All are vulnerable. Except our allies. Want to believe we’re far away? Good luck.
5. Can you manipulate values in critical systems like water treatment?
Europe is a leaky sieve pretending it’s a fortress. While they debate policies, we act. We avoid civilian harm, but if necessary—we don’t hesitate.
We don’t fear consequences. Consequences should fear us. When we hit, people don’t ask “why,” but “how?”
6. Could you extract industrial secrets like vaccine formulas?
Sure, it’s possible—but not our focus right now. No need to carry proof or screenshots. Internet analysts do that for us. Just check Twitter (X). Everything’s there.
The black market? Not our playground—yet. But never say never.
7. Why haven’t military OT systems been visibly attacked?
We don’t want nuclear war. That’s dull. But if provoked—we’re ready.
Did you know British submarines run on Russian-developed software? Imagine a message: “Activation possible only after calling Moscow.” Are we there? You decide.
8. Are some military targets already compromised?
Yes. But we stay silent. That’s our edge. We infiltrate through weak passwords, loopholes, or pure ignorance.
While others talk, we study. The best moment to strike? When the enemy feels untouchable.
9. Do allied groups have coordinated roles?
Absolutely. We're not chaotic—we're structured. Every team has a specialty. No jack-of-all-trades here. Think of it like football: if the striker fails, the defender steps in.
We cover each other. That’s our strength.
10. You’ve targeted Spain. Why?
Spain practically invited us in. Weak protections, predictable vulnerabilities. It was easy. Spain thought cybersecurity was like a garden fence—one gust and it falls.
We helped NoName057(16) in their DDoS campaigns too. Why not?
11. What techniques do you use—phishing, malware, wipers?
We use everything—selectively. From phishing to precision tools. It’s about impact, not noise.
Sometimes we need a hammer. Sometimes a scalpel. We use both.
12. What unites such different groups in your alliances?
Easy: NATO. Have you ever seen NATO do something useful? They’re just loud and clumsy.
We support real values, not power games. Humanity > politics. Real power lies in people, not in flags.
13. Are you state-sponsored?
If we had a dollar for every time someone said that, we’d buy better coffee.
We’re not funded. We’re a family. But if someone wants to buy us a drink—we won’t say no. Cheers!
14. Do you operate from inside targeted countries?
We’re everywhere. We identify allies where no one looks. We integrate people into the network silently.
If we’re not in your country yet—don’t worry. We will be.
15. Why focus on Spain?
Because Spain supports Zelensky while drowning in its own crises. Economy, politics—even the royal family. Yet they keep funding a war against our brothers.
If Spain were a person, it’d be the neighbor with no food who still pays for others’ vacations. Noble? Maybe. Smart? Not really.
16. Final words?
Thanks for the interview. We hope your readers enjoy it. And remember—we’re already closer than you think.
